Shifting Alliances

Oneworld airlines are making moves at Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) and London Heathrow (LHR). From Nov. 24, all oneworld member airlines, including British Airways, Finnair, Iberia and Malév Hungarian Airlines, will transfer operations to Stockholm airport’s newly expanded Terminal 5.

A Handful Of New Flights

South African Airways expanded its African route network by increasing capacity to a number of destinations throughout the continent. Flights between Johannesburg (JNB) and Dar es Salaam (DAR) increased to nine weekly flights, with the two new flights being offered Saturday and Sunday.

High-Speed Rail Plans

Funding is scarce for a 17,000-mile national high-speed rail network. According to the president and chief executive officer of the U.S. High Speed Rail Association, the network would cost $600 billion, a far cry from the $8 billion provided by Congress in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Corporate Travel Spending Remains Steady

According to American Express, corporate travel spending continues to remain steady. Recent figures showed $3.5 billion in corporate travel sales during the third quarter of 2009. While the figure represents a 31 percent decrease from spending in 2008, it is in line with spending from the first two quarters of 2009.

My nephew and I stumbled into the 8th Street Grill completely by accident.  Fortunately, accidents happen. We were looking for a place to watch the UFC fights on Pay-Per-View and had struck out. As we headed back to our hotel, we saw the 8th Street Grill. It did not look like a sports bar, but we took a chance and were pleasantly surprised — by everything.
