Malaysia Airlines System Upgrade

Malaysia Airlines is preparing to upgrade its reservations system. As an advance warning to all passengers, the airline sent an alert that between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Oct. 31, all reservations and ticketing functions at call centers, ticket offices and on the Internet will be inaccessible.

New Checkpoints At LAX

The city of Los Angeles awarded Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) contracts for a major overhaul of the international facilities. As the largest contract ever awarded for a single project in the city, the $1.3 billion, financed with bonds, will be the first major renovation of the international terminal in more than 25 years.

17 New Cities For Delta

Despite reducing capacity on overseas flights, Delta Air Lines announced new international service to 17 cities. The carrier has trimmed some flights in order to bring more options to more profitable routes.

Green Aircraft Debuts

Southwest Airlines debuted a green aircraft last week on a flight from Dallas (DFW) to Seattle (SEA). The green aircraft uses environmentally friendly materials to make the airplane almost 520 pounds lighter. The Boeing 737-300 aircraft will be used throughout the route network for approximately six months.

Piracy Leads To Cruise Cancellations

The growing number of pirate attacks has led to Yachts of the Seabourn’s decision to cancel a cruise in the Indian Ocean, along the Eastern African countries. The cruise will be moved to the Caribbean. The Seabourn Legend was slated to sail to the Seychelles, Kenya, Zanzibar and Madagascar in 2010–2011.
